What you can look forward to at the Greyt Greyhound Picnic 2018

Last year was our first time organising an event as large as the Greyt Greyhound Picnic. Despite the threat of rain we enjoyed a beautiful day of sunshine and this led to a fantastic attendance.

We had hoped we could get close to filling the car park and by early afternoon it was almost at capacity. This year we are making provision for additional parking on the show to comfortably take all visitors to the show safely while still allowing plenty of room for the show rings and stalls.

We have taken on board feedback from last years show and the stalls will be closer to the show rings. You will be able to peruse the stalls between taking part in the show classes and not miss what is going on in the show rings or what is coming up.

This year we will have a show compere providing a PA System giving us full site coverage with back up. MrB, otherwise known as Iain Black, will be keeping us informed of what classes are coming up and class results as they happen. He will also give you details of our stallholders and other things going on during the day.

The 2018 Kama's Cave Sausage Race

Once again we will be holding the popular Sausage Race during a break in the Dog Show Classes.

If you haven't seen it before each dog, with their owner, lines up with 3 plates in front of them over a distance of about 25m. On each plate is a piece of sausage. When the race starts the competitors run to each plate in turn and eat the sausage then turn and run back to the start/finish line.

After Class 7 finishes in both show rings we will take a break to allow the Judges and ring stewards to have a rest and recharge ready for the remaining classes and Show Ring 1 will be set up for the first heat of the Sausage Race. Depending on the number of entries we will hold heats followed by semi finals and a final or straight to a final. The winner of the final will receive a trophy and treats for the winning dog.

To enter the Sausage Race please go to the Kama's Cave stall on show ground where you can pay the entry fee of £2 and pick up your race number. Entries can be made at the Kama's Cave stall up to the end of Class 7 in show ring 1 but if you haven't entered and would like to take part once you have seen the first heat you will still be able to enter. Just listen out to the PA announcements giving you details.
